September 2011- Defect Roll Mapping

Greetings

Summer is drawing to a close, and its been one of the busiest in PC Industries’ history. We’ve been working hard to prepare for Labelexpo, which is coming up at the end of this month. We’ve got some big plans and hope to see you there. Check out the Coming Events section for more information on where to find us, and what we’ll be doing to make sure that this is one of our best trade shows of the year.

This month, we would like to present some information on one of the most powerful features that we offer our customers: Defect Roll Mapping. As part of our Guardian PQV system, this feature works to help improve your line efficiency. For more information, see the Monthly Focus: Defect Roll Mapping section!

Coming Events: Labelexpo Europe 2011

Labelexpo Europe runs September 28th through October 1st this year in beautiful Brussels, Belgium. Our preparations for the trade show are well under way, and we’ve got a lot to show!

We will be demonstrating the Guardian PQV 100% Print Quality Verification system. See how the system works first-hand with PC Industries there to answer any question you might have about it. The Guardian PQV features our Defect Roll Mapping system, which we detail in the Monthly Focus section of this letter.

We will be showcasing Guardian OLP Off Line Proofing system and RX Series Web Viewers as well. Make sure to visit us at booth 9F32 for information on the Guardian PQV, Guardian OLP and RX Series Digital Web Viewers, or just to say hi!

Monthly Focus: Defect Roll Mapping

PC Industries offers Defect Roll Mapping on every Guardian PQV 100% Print Quality Verification system. This flexible, reliable, and easy to use software was designed to help improve your bottom line by detecting defects early in the process.

Defect Roll Mapping records defects by lane and footage for each roll. The press operator can compare the print to the master on the fly, and accept, reject, or even train the system to bypass that defect in the future – all without stopping the press.

Defect Roll Mapping is flexible enough to be used on any press or rewinder, or as an independent workstation. To learn more about our Defect Roll Mapping system, or any of our inspection systems, contact us at 1.847.336.3300, or visit our website at 10.97.57.37/PCI-Local/.

September’s InfoByte

Each month we present a new bit of trivia that we call an InfoByte. You can check out previos InfoBytes in our newsletter archive.

This month’s trivia is about the barcode.

In June of 1974, the first U.P.C. scanner was installed at a Marsh’s supermarket in Troy, Ohio. The first item sold after being scanned with a UPC barcode was a 10-pack of Wrigley’s Juicy Fruit Gum, which is now on display at the Smithsonian. The first implementation of bar codes, however, was to label railroad cars.

You can read more about the history of the barcode on Barcode 1.
