June Monthly Focus: What’s Happening At PCI

Here at PC Industries, we’re gearing up for the busy summer months. Our company has shown consistent growth over the past 3 years, and we’re making sure all our customers, old and new, will continue to receive the world-class support they expect from us. Check out the "What’s Happening at PC Industries" section to see some of the new things to look for from PC Industries.

We’re also starting preparations for Labelexpo Europe in September. We will be showing many products, new and improved, this year, so check out the "Labelexpo" section for details.

What’s Happening at PC Industries

PC Industries has shown strong growth over the past 3 years, with no signs of slowing. To help us continue to meet the needs of our customers, new and old, we’ve expanded our support team, added on new representatives worldwide, and expanded our product line to include new capabilities.

We would like to start by introducing our two newest employees, Russ Suda and Gerry Stanford.

RussRuss Suda: Russ started at PC Industries in January. He received a Computer Science degree in 2003, and has been working in software development and technical support since. Russ can provide high level support for all systems that PCI offers, including Schlafender Hase’s Text Verification Tool.

Gerry Stanford: Gerry joined PC Industries 1 year ago as a Sales Engineer to support our growing global sales. He brings a strong engineering background, and over 23 years experience in selling technical products and supporting customers internationally.

We’ve added several agents worldwide to help with sales, service, and support of all our systems. You can read about each of these companies here.

We’ve been working hard to make sure our products meet changing needs throughout the printing industry. We’ve partnered with the German company Schlafender Hase to add the Text Verification Tool (TVT) to our suite of products. Four PCI employees have already become certified in the use and support of this great software product. You can find out more about the TVT here.

Labelexpo Europe 2013

This year at Labelexpo, we’ll be showcasing the following:

We’ll be at booth 7L125, so be sure to drop by for a demonstration or just to say hi. You can schedule a demo in advance by calling 1-847-336-3300. We look forward to seeing you there!

June’s InfoBYTE

Each month we present a new bit of trivia that we call an InfoByte. You can check out previous InfoBytes in our newsletter archive.

This month, we’re taking a look at the numeral "0".

Today, we tend to take the modern concept of "0" for granted, often assuming that it’s been around as long as every other numeral. In truth, though, the numeral, and the concept that it represents, are relatively modern inventions.

Around 2000 B.C., we see the first evidence of the use of the concept "0." The Babylonians used it to keep stock of goods and to record transactions. Its wasn’t used as a number for calculations as it is today, but merely as an indication that there was no goods of a certain kind. The Greeks borrowed this concept to perform astronomical calculations, but did not hold their own version or concept of "0."

It wasn’t until around 650 A.D. in India that the concept behind "0" as both a placeholder and number was formalized. The Indian mathematician and astronomer Brahmagupta defined several rules for calculations concerning positive and negative numbers and "0." These concepts were outlined in his book, Brahmasphutasiddhanta.

For more information, check out YaleGlobal, and Wikipedia’s entry on 0 and the Brahmasphutasiddhanta.
